My Sleepy Head

Our very first purchase when we started preparing for the arrival of our little man was the Sleepyhead Deluxe Pod. I knew that I would have him in our room/bed a lot and the first thing that I liked about it was the ability to have the protected raised sides to keep him well cocooned. I’d seen on it on various posts and websites and thought it would be quite handy – it was so much more than that. We used it in our lounge, bedroom and anywhere we needed to be and needed him close by. We had access to pods while visiting family but had that not been the case we would likely have traveled with ours too. (Great for plane rides when they’re little!)

What was our experience?
We aren’t very routined people – yes, I said it! We had late nights on the couch, had Noah in our bed and generally didn’t stress too much about him sleeping in his cot, and that’s extended to our current situation too with him being older. I’m still nursing him, so I find having him close by in a pod gives us our space but keeps him safe in his. I’ve had to move him out of the bedside cot as he is able to climb out, so having the pod on the floor next to me is just perfect.
I find myself carrying our pod up and down the stairs to let him play in, and sleep in on the floor in the lounge while we’re hosting friends or making dinner. Noah is at that age where he can’t be left next to pillows for couch sleeps as he moves and climbs (yes, climbs!) in his sleep so for safety reasons I put him on surfaces he can’t fall off from.
Truth be told – I am always drawn to things that are both functional and pretty. While we opted for the white in the pods to keep it gender neutral and match the house, there are some really pretty patterns in both the pods and the pod covers. Our cats seem to like the pods just as much as Noah does, so if I forget to cover it (when we leave it in the lounge) or put it somewhere cat-proof I often wake up to find Ella curled up in it. Whether it’s her fur or if Noah has a little nappy leak, I’ve had no problem cleaning it. The covers are easily zipped off and washed and put back on.
When looking out for a pod go with a brand that you know has been used by loads of mums as the small technical details of the original brand do make a difference in terms of the comfort and usage.
It’s a great one for the registry, and I’m in favor of brands that grow with your family. These can be used up to 3 years – and then again for baby 2, 3, 4…..
